The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is offering a 6‑month IoT Operations Support Internship within its Information and Technology Management (ITM) Unit, based at UN City in Copenhagen. This is a high‑impact, hands‑on opportunity for students and recent graduates passionate about IoT, cloud technologies, data analytics, and sustainable digital solutions.
UNDP’s ITM Unit supports 170+ UNDP Country Offices with ICT and green energy solutions. Interns join a dynamic, international team working on real global development challenges, gaining exposure to:
· UNDP’s digital transformation
· Clean energy and sustainability initiatives
· Global ICT operations and infrastructure
· A multicultural network of UN staff and interns
The internship runs 3 August 2026 – 31 January 2027.
Installation & Operations
· Set up IoT networks and infrastructure in UNDP Country Offices
· Integrate devices with Azure IoT platforms
· Test sensors, gateways, and full infrastructure chains
· Provide operational support post‑deployment
Troubleshooting & Resolution
· Resolve network and connectivity issues
· Work with Country Office IT teams, HQ, and vendors
· Follow SLA procedures for incident handling
Alarm Handling & Escalation
· Manage incidents via UNall ITSM
· Monitor alarms from NMS dashboards
· Escalate complex issues to SFNOC or Level‑2 support
Capacity Building & Field Support
· Assist with global webinars and training
· Support on‑site operations when required
Systems Development
· Help develop IoT operational procedures
· Create manuals, guidelines, and user support materials
· Research IoT sensors and integration methods
Documentation & ISO Compliance
· Produce technical documentation, reports, and guides
· Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2008 standards
· Strong interest in IoT, data analytics, software engineering, or sustainability
· Innovative mindset with interest in smart ICT solutions
· Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
· Excellent teamwork and communication
· Ability to organize and structure technical tasks
· Cultural and global sensitivity
· Commitment to continuous learning
Applicants must meet one of the following:
· Enrolled in a postgraduate degree
· In the final year of a Bachelor’s program
· Recently graduated (within 1 year)
· Enrolled in a postgraduate traineeship program
Preferred Knowledge Areas:
· IoT technologies (Azure IoT Hub, IoT Central, MQTT, REST API, Node‑RED, Grafana)
· Embedded systems, ML/AI, data analytics
· Network troubleshooting (LAN/WAN, switches, routers)
· Cloud computing (Azure, Office 365, SharePoint)
· Programming (Python, Java, SQL, JavaScript, HTML/CSS)
· Data management and real‑time data processing
· ICT security and ITIL/ISO‑based operations
· Monthly stipend (varies by duty station)
· In‑person internships receive USD 1,000/month
· Remote internships receive a reduced stipend
· All other costs (travel, insurance, accommodation) are self‑funded
· Interns must provide proof of medical insurance
· Internship does not lead to employment with UNDP
· Interns must arrange visas and travel
