Academy in Exile Residential Fellowships at TU Dortmund University

The Academy in Exile (AiE) supports scholars and cultural producers at risk due to their academic work or advocacy for human rights, democracy, and academic freedom. It offers fellowships in Germany, allowing them to continue their research in a multidisciplinary setting while engaging in dialogue on global challenges to intellectual life, justice, and diversity. Fellows also help shape AiE’s broader research and intellectual direction.

Eligibility/Requirements

• Be at risk because of academic work, civic work in human rights, democracy and academic freedom
• Be an at risk scholars in your home country OR
• Be an at risk scholars who hasn't been outside of home country for more than 2 years
• Have a PDF in humanities, social sciences or law

Fellowship Application Process

• Letter explaining your motivation for applying to Academy in Exile
• A three-page research proposal
• CV showing a list of publications
• PhD degree certificate
• Published journal article or chapter

Fellowship Offers

• 2,500 EUR monthly stipend
• 500 EUR per month for health insurance
